The publisher said today that both PC and Xbox 360 owners of Left 4 Dead will receive the upcoming DLC for free when it goes online this spring. With Turtle Rock Studios' Left 4 Dead, though, Valve has achieved a coup of sorts against Microsoft, which Gabe Newell blamed for The Orange Box DLC surcharge on the Xbox 360. Those same updates, however, come at a price for those who purchased the Xbox 360 edition of The Orange Box-and are still unavailable. After all, the Half-Life 2 creator has taken a magnanimous approach with The Orange Box, updating the multiplayer-only pack-in Team Fortress 2 with new maps, class abilities, and achievements on a regular basis. That Valve would offer its upcoming Left 4 Dead downloadable content to PC gamers for free isn't all that surprising.
